In short. The Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder is the one to take for a day or a weekend when you want a two-seat open-top supercar: a naturally aspirated V10, 5.2 l, 640 hp (470 kW), 3.1 s to 100 km/h, 325 km/h and all-wheel drive. The Aurex fleet has the 2022 version; coupé figures are given here only for comparison.

Huracán EVO: versions and place in the range

The manufacturer describes the EVO as the development of Lamborghini’s most successful V10 car. The new features it names are 20-inch wheels and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and the key systems are LDVI and four-wheel steering, that is, the rear wheels turn too. According to evo, the EVO coupé was built in 2019-2023, the Spyder in 2020-2023, and the rear-wheel-drive EVO RWD also in 2020-2023. The fleet car, from 2022, falls within that period.

The rental dates and terms are on the Lamborghini Huracán page, while this article deals with the model itself. The versions, according to the Lamborghini website:

  • Huracán EVO (coupé): all-wheel drive, 640 hp, more than 325 km/h, 2.9 s to 100 km/h.
  • Huracán EVO Spyder: all-wheel drive, 640 hp, 325 km/h, 3.1 s.
  • Huracán EVO RWD: rear-wheel drive, 610 hp, 325 km/h, 3.3 s.
  • Huracán EVO RWD Spyder: rear-wheel drive, 610 hp, 324 km/h, 3.5 s.
  • Huracán Tecnica: rear-wheel drive, 640 hp, 325 km/h, 3.2 s.
  • Huracán STO: rear-wheel drive, 640 hp, 310 km/h, 3.0 s.
  • Huracán Sterrato: all-wheel drive, 610 hp, 260 km/h, 3.4 s.

Spyder against coupé: what the folding roof changes

The Spyder’s roof is a soft top and folds electrically. The price is paid in seconds and kilograms: the Spyder reaches 100 km/h in 3.1 s against 2.9 s for the coupé, and 200 km/h in 9.3 s against 9.0. The Spyder’s top speed is 325 km/h; for the coupé the manufacturer states more than 325. Dry weight is 1542 kg against 1422 kg, which is 120 kg more, and height is 1180 mm against 1165 mm.

Fuel consumption data exists only for the Spyder: 14.9 l/100 km in the WLTP combined cycle and 338 g/km of CO2, class G. For the coupé the manufacturer’s page gives no consumption figure. The braking distance from 100 km/h is likewise given by the manufacturer for the coupé: 31.9 m.

For comparison: for the coupé, the manufacturer separately describes direct and multi-point injection (MPI and DSI), the Euro 6 emissions class, a weight distribution of 43 to 57 per cent between the axles, and 20-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres, 245/30 R20 at the front and 305/30 R20 at the rear. The coupé is all-wheel drive: an electronically controlled fifth-generation Haldex clutch and a mechanical self-locking rear differential. The Spyder’s drivetrain description mentions a hydraulic multi-plate clutch.

The driving position, separately. Top Gear, in its Spyder review (July 2020), criticises the driving position and the legibility of the screen with the roof down, and recommends the coupé. If you choose the Spyder for the open top, try the driving position in advance and judge the screen with the roof down.

The V10, the gearbox and all-wheel drive

The V10 has a 90-degree cylinder angle, a displacement of 5204 cm3, a bore of 84.5 mm, a stroke of 92.8 mm, a compression ratio of 12.7:1 and dry-sump lubrication. Power of 640 hp arrives at 8000 rpm and torque of 600 Nm at 6500 rpm: the peak comes at high revs. The gearbox is a seven-speed dual-clutch (LDF). The drive is all-wheel, in the Spyder through an electronically controlled hydraulic multi-plate clutch.

Converting the dry weight into weight per horsepower, the Spyder comes to about 2.4 kg per hp, the coupé about 2.2 kg, and the Tecnica and STO about 2.2 and 2.1 kg. This is dry weight: kerb weight is not given in the manufacturer’s table, and the real weight with fluids and a driver is higher.

The rear-wheel-drive versions are set up differently. The EVO RWD gives away 30 hp (610 instead of 640) and is about 0.4 s slower to 100 km/h. The Tecnica and STO again have 640 hp, but torque of 565 Nm: the Tecnica reaches 100 km/h in 3.2 s with a top speed of 325 km/h, the STO in 3.0 s at 310 km/h. The dry weight of the Tecnica is 1379 kg and of the STO 1339 kg, with WLTP consumption of 14.5 and 13.85 l/100 km. The Tecnica is 4567 mm long.

How the Huracán EVO drives: the verdicts of evo and Top Gear

The verdicts come from three sources: the evo review of the Huracán EVO (updated on 29 May 2026), the Top Gear review of the coupé of 11 July 2019 and the Top Gear review of the Spyder of 17 July 2020. They are verdicts on the model, not on a particular car in the fleet.

Evo describes the naturally aspirated V10 as rich in sound. The dual-clutch gearbox shifts crisply in Sport mode, is sluggish in Strada and in Corsa responds very sharply, with the automatic upshift at the red line switched off.

The magazine rates the handling highly: grip and agility are great thanks to LDVI, and the steered rear wheels have removed the nervousness of earlier versions. The steering is accurate but gives little feel.

The ride allows no compromise. The suspension modes leave no middle ground, Sport is too harsh on a poor surface, and there is no separate comfort setting. Top Gear writes similarly about the 2019 version: stability and cornering speed are good, the handling is a little coarse and less refined than that of its rivals, and the ride is firm below 40 mph (about 65 km/h) and more comfortable at high speed. Ferraris and McLarens of the same class are, in that publication’s view, tuned more finely than the 2019 Huracán EVO.

For a city pace, a practical conclusion follows. Below 65 km/h, where urban driving takes place, Top Gear calls the ride of the 2019 version firm. In Strada mode the gearbox, according to evo, is sluggish, and Sport is too harsh on a poor surface. The suspension modes give no compromise, so in town you will have to put up with a firm ride.

Among rivals in the class, the Audi R8 V10 performance quattro is worth naming: a naturally aspirated 5.2 V10, 620 hp, all-wheel drive, 3.1 s to 100 km/h, 331 km/h. The Spyder, with 640 hp, has the same 3.1 s and 325 km/h. The weights cannot be compared directly: Audi gives a kerb weight of 1595 kg, Lamborghini a dry weight.

Dimensions and driving position

Length 4520 mm, width 1933 mm without mirrors and 2236 mm with mirrors, so the mirrors add 303 mm. The Spyder’s height is 1180 mm and its wheelbase 2620 mm. According to evo, the body feels big and bulky, so plan parking in a tight spot in advance. For the coupé the manufacturer specifies mirrors that are electrically adjusted, heated and folding.

The Spyder has two seats. If three people need to travel, this body will not do, and it is better to look straight away at the other cars in the fleet.

The Huracán in Poland: route and local conditions

For the Spyder, Kazimierz Dolny is a good destination from Warsaw: about 150 km, roughly two hours. The main stretch runs along the S17 expressway, then regional roads 824 and 801. A day trip for two with the roof down fits into daylight, and on the regional stretch remember evo’s verdict: Sport mode is too harsh on a poor surface.

There are no vignettes for passenger cars in Poland, and the toll sections of motorway are paid separately; how that works is explained in the article on toll roads. Ask about the Clean Transport Zone (SCT) in Warsaw and your particular car when booking.

Who it suits and who it doesn’t

It suits:

  • a couple who want a naturally aspirated V10 and an open top;
  • day trips on smooth tarmac, where a firm ride is no obstacle;
  • those who want all-wheel drive in a supercar: 640 hp and 3.1 s to 100 km/h.

It doesn’t suit:

  • parties of three or more: there are two seats;
  • those looking for soft suspension: according to evo, there is no comfort setting;
  • those who care about the driving position and the screen with the roof down: Top Gear recommends the coupé in that case;
  • those who need an SUV: the fleet has the Lamborghini Urus Performante from 2023 with the 4.0L engine and all-wheel drive.
